Need batteries and a birthday candle? Ruth's already got some. Want a table taken down? Ruth's already done it. Like Charlotte, Ruth was nothing short of an all star. She's a peach and a true professional, and we cannot thank her enough for all her guidance in making our night at the pond so perfect.Īnother leading lady we were lucky enough to have in our corner was Ruth Whitelaw, the Equinox Director of Catering who was the day-of coordinator the night of our wedding. For nine months straight, Charlotte fielded our endless questions about anything and everything from vendors, to logistics, to decor, all with a smile on her face. Charlotte's patience, enthusiasm, responsiveness, sense of humor, and knowledge of the industry are just a few of the things that make her a joy to work with. The minute we met Charlotte Callahan, the Equinox Wedding Coordinator, we knew we were in good hands. What makes this place so special, however, is the staff. And from hiking, to outlet shopping, to fly-fishing and cheese tours, there really is something for everyone in Manchester. The resort itself, nestled right in the shadow of the mountains, is breathtaking. Look at each other and say how badly we wish we could go back to Vermont and do it all over again. We worked with Sarah from Big Apple Bride and she was phenomenal - we never had to stress about anything and she made it all so seamless: along with our phenomenal team of day of vendors: Also highly recommend working with a wedding planner to help execute your vision and liaise with all vendors. Other than that, we had the most dreamy wedding day imaginable and we are so happy we booked the Equinox. Not everyone, just a select handful which is disappointing to hear but we personally had only positive interactions with all staff as bride and groom. Unfortunately we did hear from many people that some of the bartenders at cocktail hour/ reception were rude towards our guests. Just about everyone we worked with at Equinox was exceptional - shout out to the front desk team with our welcome bags, they were all so wonderful to us and all our questions. It got pretty warm in the ballroom with everyone dancing because of record high heat on our wedding day and AC couldn't keep up, but our guests just rolled with it and didn't slow down the partying. The views on the lawn with the spa and mountain backdrop cannot be beat - absolutely stunning and such a charming Vermont feel. For our wedding, we chose the Lincoln Lawn for ceremony & cocktail hour, and the Colonnade Ballroom for reception. The spa team went above and beyond in helping to set up a private yoga class.

The chest pain could last as long as 30 minutes and does not go away with rest or medication. Unstable angina is more serious than stable angina and it can occur even at rest. It does not indicate an impending heart attack. Symptoms disappear immediately with rest or medication. Stable angina – lasts only a few minutes and occurs predictably during physical exertion such as climbing the stairs, or during mental or emotional stress.

Jeff and Steve appear in the movie, along with Robert in the sequel Lovedolls Superstar which the brothers co-wrote with Dave Markey and Jennifer Schwartz. In that same year, they were featured on the soundtrack of Desperate Teenage Lovedolls with their cover of the Brady Bunch Kids' "It's a Sunshine Day". In 1984, lead guitarist Robert Hecker joined the band, as they embarked on tour in support of Teen Babes from Monsanto. In 1984, Redd Kross returned with drummer Dave Peterson to record Teen Babes from Monsanto, an album featuring covers by Kiss, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and The Shangri-Las. Not long after the release of the album, the group was threatened with a lawsuit from the International Red Cross and changed the spelling of their name to Redd Kross, allegedly being inspired by Redd Foxx. The album also contains nods to Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, Tatum O'Neal, and Lita Ford. Full of the brothers' pop culture obsessions, Born Innocent featured odes to Linda Blair (who starred in a television movie of the same name), a cover of "Look on Up from the Bottom" by the Carrie Nations from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and Charles Manson (whose song " Cease to Exist" they covered). They appeared on the Posh Boy compilation The Siren, and then to complete the lineup on their first full-length album, Born Innocent, they assembled a revolving door of musicians including original drummer John Stielow. Eventually, Hetson left to join the Circle Jerks (and later Bad Religion) and Reyes left for Black Flag. They soon began working on their 1980 debut self-titled EP. They eventually changed the band name to Red Cross, which was allegedly inspired by the masturbation scene in the film The Exorcist. Other songs such as 'Cover Band', 'S&M Party' and 'I Hate My School' were also played that same first practice. The first song they played was 'Annette's Got the Hits'. In April 1979, the band had their first practice in the living room of original drummer, John Stielow's parent's living room. The band has since released seven albums and three EPs. With the addition of friends Greg Hetson and John Stielow on drums, the band's first gig was opening for Black Flag. Redd Kross is an American rock band from Hawthorne, California, who had their roots in 1978 in a punk rock band called the Tourists, which was started by brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald while Steve was still in middle school. Martinez had long been captivated by La Tunisia, a Middle Eastern–themed spot in Dallas with a sheik’s tent cocktail lounge, costumed servers, and a seven-foot-tall doorman decked in a fez. He found himself drawn back to restaurants. “While hippies were calling everyone capitalist pigs, I wanted to go into business.” “This was during the Nixon era, at the time of the Vietnam War, when young people were burning the flag, burning their draft cards, and refusing to go to war,” Martinez says. He returned to school for his GED and then earned a two-year degree from El Centro College, where an interests assessment directed him toward entrepreneurship. He had above-average but not-quite-star-quality talent, and in the following years, Martinez watched from the sidelines as peers like singer Trinidad López and golfer Lee Trevino made it big. “That wasn’t the life I wanted for myself,” says Martinez, who dropped out of high school in the tenth grade to pursue music and golf. When Martinez was growing up, his father worked eighty hours a week in his Dallas restaurant, El Charro. On May 11, 1971, shortly after opening, he would change the course of global cocktail culture with the world’s first frozen margarita machine. I felt like I was revolutionizing Mexican cuisine.” “I dressed like a Mexican revolutionary hero. “I put on a Mexican sombrero like Emiliano Zapata, with a bullet belt across my chest,” recalls Martinez, a Mexican American whose height and fighting weight at the time were five feet, six inches, and 120 pounds, respectively. He had been turned down by eleven banks, sold everything he owned, and secured a small SBA loan and funds from family and friends.įor his newspaper portrait, Martinez grew his hair long and sported a black mustache and goatee. Martinez’s restaurant opened on fumes for finances. He ordered a dozen cabrito to roast and, short on cash, convinced a local distributor to donate a few cases of Champagne. For the opening party of Mariano’s Mexican Cuisine in Dallas, Mariano Martinez sent out invitations printed on corn tortillas. Gravity and physics do not behave differently at the Mystery Spot. However, scientists now seem to agree that the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz (and others throughout the world) are optical illusions. Question is, what’s causing it? Just a visual trick?įor centuries gravity hills have bewildered scientists and their half-baked theories left considerable room for doubt and mystery. The website for the Mystery Spot calls it a “gravitational anomaly” with “puzzling variations of gravity, perspective and height”. The cabin is referred to a “gravity house” on a “gravity hill” or “magnetic hill” (of which there are a number of others). Even the trees around the house defy gravity, growing at bizarre angles. People can hang off walls, lean backwards off stairs, or lean forwards so far they can’t see their toes - all without falling over. What’s so weird about Prather’s enigmatic little cabin in the woods? Well, in it, balls roll uphill. Realising he was onto something, Prather purchased the site and decided to build a house on it, which opened to the public in 1940 and was named a historical landmark in 2014. When climbing a steep hill on the site, his compass started jittering and he felt dizzy, light-headed and top-heavy, as if something was trying to force him off the hill. It was first discovered in 1939 by George Prather. A place where the laws of gravity and physics don’t apply…īehold, the Mystery Spot. It’s a place in the redwood forests of Santa Cruz that has been baffling and astonishing tourists for decades. When I next take a trip to California, there’s somewhere I HAVE to go. |
